Veronica Balladares, Nicaragua

Veronica Balladares is a coach and director of the Futbol Sin Fronteras (Soccer Without Borders) organisation in Granada, Nicaragua. Veronica told us about the role football plays in the lives of the young girls who play with Soccer Without Borders.

Where were the photos taken?

These photos were taken in Granada, Nicaragua at the field where we train three times a week, the place is called "Multiestadio".

Estas fotos fueron tomadas en Granada, Nicaragua en el campo donde entrenamos tres veces a la semana, el lugar se llama “Multiestadio”

Is there a specific person you took photos of that has a good personal story?

The girl taking a throw in is Michell Guadamuz. This young woman has grown up both as a footballer and as a person with the program. When she arrived she did not know anything about soccer, but now she is an excellent left-back, she is part of the leadership group and one of the best students in her school.

Existe una persona que tiene buena historia personal?

Si, se llama Michell Guadamuz ella sale en una foto haciendo un saque de banda. Esta joven ha crecido con el programatanto futbolisticamente como personalmente, cuando llego no sabia nada de futbol ahora ella esa una excelente defensa lateral izquierdo, en lo personal es una de las integrantes del grupo de liderez y es una de las mejores alumnas en su escuela.

Why is football so important for Nicaragua and Nicaraguan people?

Soccer has been growing in this country, although baseball still dominates - but despite that, we show that through soccer we can break down barriers, unite our nation and transform lives.

Football gives you friends to share good and bad moments, where you can forget the world and problems.

Por qué el Futbol es tan importantes para Nicaragua y los Nicaraguenses?

El futbol ha venido creciendo ya que en este pais reyna el beisbol pero aun asi se esta demostrando que a travez del futbol podemos romper barreras, unir naciones y transformar vidas.

El significado de esta foto para mi esque solo el futbol te regala amigas para compartir buenos y malos momentos y diversión en donde puedes olvidarte del mundo, de los problemas.

What is the future for women's football in Nicaragua?

The National Federation of Soccer of Nicaragua is striving to have gender equality in the national teams and in the first division soccer tournament. We hope for a future with opportunities and an acceptance in society.

Cual es el Futuro para el futbol femenino en Nicaragua?

A nivel nacional la Federacion Nacional de Futbol de Nicaragua se esta esforzando por tener una igualdad de genero dentro las selecciones, asi como en el torneo de futbol de primera division. Nos espera un futuro con oportunidades y una aceptacion en la sociedad.

What does Soccer Without Borders do in Nicaragua?

We use soccer as a vehicle for positive social change with the girls of Granada. We integrate them into society through education and we create girls with the right values so that they become good people in our society. We play football for fun as a hobby, without taking away from the fact that it promotes women's football.

I chose this group because they are the teenagers and they are an example to follow for the younger girls from Soccer Without Borders, as well as showing that anyone can play football.

Qué hace futbol sin fronteras en Nicaragua?

Usamos el futbol como un vehiculo para el cambio social positivo de las niñas Granadinas, las integramos a la sociedad mediente la educacion y formamos niñas, adolescentes con valores para que sean personas de bien en nuestra sociedad e inculcamos el futbol como una diversion, sinomitir que promueve el futbol femenino.

Elegí este grupo porque son las adolescentes y ellas son un ejemplo a seguir para las niñas más pequeñas de futbol sin fronteras, también que pueden transmitir que todas pueden jugar.

How did people respond to being photographed?

The girls like that through an image they could express everything they do in Soccer Without Borders. Sharing a bit of culture, the Nicaraguan people are friendly and do not mind being photographed.

Cómo respondio la gente a ser fotografiada?

A las chicas les gustan las fotos mas al saber que atravez de una imagen podrian expresar todo lo que hacen en futbol sin fronteras. Compartiendo un poco de la cultura, la gente nicaraguense es amable y no les importa que les tomen fotos.
