My name is Analía González. I was born on July 26, 1991 in Quito, Ecuador. I am a designer and photographer. I learned to play soccer at the age of 6 with my older brother on the field of our neighborhood and I was part of the women's soccer team at University. In 2014 I played for Club Espuce de Quito in the Women's Championship of the country. Since 2019 I spread content about women's football in my country through my Instagram page @triplete.593, to be able to make it visible and spread the word and work of my colleagues. I try to make women's soccer in Ecuador more valued in every aspect.

Mi nombre es Analía González, nací el 26 de julio de 1991 en Quito, Ecuador, soy diseñadora y fotógrafa. Aprendi a jugar fútbol a los 6 años con mi hermano mayor en la cancha de nuestro barrio, fui parte de la selección de fútbol femenino de la Universidad. En el año 2014 jugue en el Club Espuce de Quito que participaba en el Campeonato Femenino del país, desde el año 2019 difundo contenido sobre el fútbol femenino de mi país por medio de mi pagina de instagram @triplete.593 para poder visibilizar y difundir el trabajo de mis compañeras y así el futbol femenino del Ecuador sea mas valorado en todo aspecto.  

Who is in the photos? Where were the photos taken?

The photographs are of Club Espuce playing the 2020 Amateur Soccer League - in 2019 Espuce were relegated to the Amateur League. In 2020 the tournament was postponed due to the pandemic and in 2021 the “Amateur Tournament 2020” was held for winning a place in the 2021 Women's Super League (Ecuador's professional league). Nowadays Espuce is playing in the SuperLiga Femenina.

Las fotografias son del Club Espuce que estaba disputando la Liga de fútbol Amateur 2020, en el año 2019 Espuce descendio a la liga Amateur. En el 2020 se aplazo el torneo por la pandemia y en el 2021 se realizó el “Torneo Amateur 2020” para un cupo a la Súperliga Femenina 2021 (liga profesional del Ecuador).Espuce juega actualmente en la Súperliga Femenina.

Are there any good stories connected with the people or teams you photographed?

Some of the players who participated in the tournament were my teammates when I was part of the team and it fills me with great pride that they are fulfilling their dream of playing soccer and showing that women can also go far in soccer.

Algunas de las jugadoras que participaron el torneo fueron mis compañeras cuando yo era formaba parte del equipo y me llena de mucho orgullo que esten cumpliendo su sueño de jugar fútbol y de demostrar que las mujeres tambien podemos llegar lejos en el fútbol.

What did you try to show with the photos? Was there any wider meaning with the photos?

I tried to show that women can also play soccer, we love soccer, we strive like men, and we live it with the same passion. Women's football deserves more support from everyone so that it is recognized all over the world.

The players are very focused on what the Technical Director Boris Tipán is saying. That day the team was one step away from being promoted to the Women's Super League (professional tournament) and we all had our hearts beating at 1000 beats per minute. All of us who were part of the club were very nervous and excited for the final match.

Lo que intento mostrar y demostrar en las fotos es que las mujeres tambien podemos jugar al futbol, nosotras amamos el fútbol y lo vivimos con la misma pasión y nos esforzamos igual que los hombre. El futbol femenino merece más apoyo por parte de todos    para que el fútbol femenino sea reconocido por todo el mundo.

Las jugadoras estan muy concentradas en lo que dice el director Técnico Boris Tipán ese día el equipo estaba a un paso de ascender a la Súperliga Femenina (torneo profesional) y todos teniamos el corazon a 1000 por minute. Todos los que son y fuimos parte del Club estábamos muy nerviosos y emocionados por el partido final.

What are the opportunities for female footballers in Ecuador?

Women's football has grown a lot in recent years. In Ecuador there is already a professional tournament where some players receive a salary for playing. It is not much but it is some help so that they continue to work harder every day. I think it could be better. With greater support from private companies, the federation, and fans, the clubs would generate greater income that could be used for player salaries. This would prevent the players from having to look for other sources of financing such as teaching. Currently they cannot live from soccer.

El fútbol femenino ha crecido mucho en estos ultimos años, en el Ecuador ya existe un torneo profesional donde algunas jugadoras ya reciben un sueldo por jugar no es mucho pero ya es una ayuda para que ella se sigan esforzando cada dia más, considero que podria ser mejor falta mayor apoyo por parte de las empresas privadas, la federación, hinchas, etc asi los Clubes generarian mayores ingresos que se podria destinar para sueldos de jugadoras, esto evitaria que tengan que buscar otras fuentes de financiamiento como la docencia, es decir actualmente del futbol no pueden vivir. 

Why is football so important for Ecuador and its people?

Soccer in Ecuador is part of people’s imagination, they breathe soccer, and it can raise the deepest passions in individuals. Soccer generates unity, patriotism, equality on a field which can hardly be seen in other sports. It is the vehicle to reach all generations, regardless of gender, as the number of female soccer players is increasing.

El fútbol en el Ecuador es parte de su imaginario, se respira futbol y puede levantar las más profundas pasiones en los individuos. El futbol genera uniòn, patriotismo, igualdad en una cancha lo que muy dificilmente se puede ver en otras disciplinas deportivas. Es el vehiculo para llegar a todas las generaciones, sin importar incluso género, ya que cada vez es mayor el numero de mujeres futboleras. 

What role does football play in Ecuadorian society and your region?

Soccer in Ecuador, as in South America, is the favorite sport of the majority. Weekends are consecrated days, either with family or friends. It is synonymous with meeting, which shows that its objective is fulfilled, to be a sport that unites the world. South Americans are soccer players by tradition. The best players in the world have left these lands, which has generated an overwhelming and motivating fanaticism. There are more and more soccer schools that not only focus on kicking a ball but on a comprehensive training as players and human beings, being positive agents for society.

El fútbol en el Ecuador como en Sudamérica es el deporte favorito de la mayoria, los fines de semana son días consagrado, ya sea en familia o entre amigos, es sinónimo de reunión y de confraternidad lo que demuestra que su objetvo se cumple, ser un deporte que une al mundo. Sudamérica es futbolera por tradición los mejores jugadores a nivel mundial han salido de estas tierras lo que ha generado un fanatismo abrumador y motivante, cada vez hay mas escuelas de fútbol que no solo se enfocan en patear un balón sino en una formación integral como jugadores y seres humanos, siendo agentes positivos para la sociedad. 

What does football mean to you?

I grew up in a football environment. My whole family likes it, my brother taught me to play it and from there my passion for this sport was born. Soccer for me is a universal language that everyone can understand. It does not distinguish gender, does not discriminate and does not harm, for me that is football.

Crecí en un entorno futbolero a toda mi familia le gusta, mi hermano me enseño a jugarlo y desde ahí nació mi pasión por este deporte. El fútbol para mi es un lenguaje universal y que todo el mundo puede llegar a entenderlo, no distingue género, no discrimina y no daña, para mi eso es el fútbol. 

What is the future for Ecuadorian women's football?

It is important that the federation uses the same criteria for both men's soccer and women's soccer, that is to say that the two tournaments have the same characteristics, the same importance and the same economic investment; It needs to be guaranteed that female soccer players have the same treatment as male soccer players with access to equal salaries as well as optimal spaces to train. Only in this way will we achieve equality in Ecuadorian soccer.

Es importante que la federacion utilice los mismos criterios tanto para el futbol masculino como para el futbol femenino, es decir que los dos torneos tengan las mismas caracteristicas, la misma importancia y la misma inversion economica; que se garantice que las futbolistas tengan el mismo trato que un futbolista hombre con acceso a sueldos igualitarios asi como optimos espacios para entrenar, solo de esta forma lograremos igualdad en el futbol ecuatoriano.
